Ready for a day of snorkeling on the barrier reef!
Those are 2 nurse sharks... this was our 1st snorkeling location! It was amazing to see them this close!
Saturday morning began with eating breakfast in swings (the usual around here) and preparing for a full-day snorkeling tour to the Hol Chan Reserve which is part of the barrier reef. This is the same place I went with the girls a few weeks ago, but this snorkeling adventure was even more exciting than the last. We went out with a guide and only 3 other people. The first stop was in shark and ray alley and we got to see some nurse sharks up close and personal as our guide fed them. We also made a stop to see a local fisherman who hangs out in a particular area every day and prepares conch. He throws the leftovers overboard which draws in dozens of sting rays, manta rays, and loggerhead turtles. All of these creatures were huge and swam right under and around you. The turtles were absolutely amazing to see that close and was definitely one of the coolest experiences of my life. We stopped at 3 other locations to snorkel and saw lots of pretty fish and coral. Did I mention that Josh swam through a cave??? Yeah, he did! There's a short cave in part of the reef and he and the guide had enough breath to make it... I didn't : ( . It was really cool though, and you ask Josh about it when he gets home!
Josh loves "fry jacks" for breakfast just as much as I do!Ready for a day of snorkeling on the barrier reef!

That's me swimming with a giant ray... they were enormous! They're the 2 dark spots in the water.
Our second sunset from the rooftop of our hotel... beautiful!Sunday we spent the day laying out on the rooftop deck of our hotel that overlooks the entire island. We did some walking around and shopping later in the afternoon before we departed for a sunset sailing cruise around the island... it was beautiful and one of my favorite things I've done here. I would be ok with sailing around a little island to watch sunsets every night! I should add a sailboat to my wish list to accompany that private island.... lol.
to bad i dont have my collection of crab claws from red lobster anymore...that one would have been perfect!
ReplyDeletehahaha!!! these would have put the ones from red lobster to shame!
