"...I am the resurrection, and the life..." John 11:25

Sunrise, Cracker Barrel, Church, Family, Food, Eggs... This is what my typical Easter Sunday has comprised of for 21 years. The day usually begins with sunrise service at church and breakfast at Cracker Barrel with a devout group of fellow sunrisers (just made up my own word) followed by Easter service at church, lunch at Grandmother's house, egg hunt for all the "kids" at Grandmother's, and usually a stop at Memaw and DadDad's house on the way home later in the evening. To me, this is the perfect and most acceptable way to spend Easter.

However, my 22nd Easter was spent a bit differently. I woke up around 6:00am to have a sunrise service by myself, went to Galilee Baptist Church at 8:00am for breakfast and worship/communion service afterward, talked to my family on the phone, and ate banana chips and yogurt for lunch. There were no eggs of any kind involved. While it wasn't the usual Easter routine for me, I still wound up having a truly blessed Resurrection Sunday. I've decided that homemade fry jacks with re-fried beans isn't a bad way to start the day and that spending Easter with any group of Christians can lead to an amazing worship service. The people of Galilee Baptist constantly remind me that we are all God's children regardless of where we call our temporary home. The service was a celebration of the risen Savior along with a humble remembrance of the ultimate display of love which is exactly what Easter should be.

I hope y'all had just as wonderful an Easter Sunday as I did. I missed all of y'all at Rock Springs and my family... see you in 4 weeks! The countdown is on!

Easter = love. Pure love for us. Us who are unworthy of love.
I'll leave you with these lyrics from a song that I've had on my mind all morning. "Jesus Messiah" by Chris Tomlin is one of my favorites and tells the story of Easter. If you haven't heard it, download it please.

 He became sin
Who knew no sin
That we might become His Righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross

Love so amazing
Love so amazing

(Chorus)
Jesus Messiah
Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer
Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah
Lord of all

His body the bread
His blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled
And the veil was torn

(Chorus)

My Easter dress and lunch.

  1. I heard thru one of your sisters that you are missing "comments". I thought I would help by posting a quick one...can I post quick? Really? So anyways my family didn't go to CB this morning with the other devout sunrisers (nice word) but we did go alone as we had a family member coming to go to church with us and we needed to get home earlier. Anyways, maybe next year we will all be back to normal. The change in routine didn't harm our rejoicing either....Hallelujah, He Arose!!! Oh, and this is the first Easter in my past 30 that we haven't sang "Christ Arose"...it's not in the new hymnal. :( I was VERY sorry about that....

  2. It was a thrill to talk with you today. You and Matt called in, now I just need to hear from Daniel. Happy Easter, sweetie. My best moment was hearing Valerie/Brenda play "His blood has made us one" to start the sunrise service. By the way, I'm using my new computer! The old one was close to extinction so we finally upgraded. That's it for Monroe excitement! Love, Aunt Deb
