"Take a Break"

We went to San Ignacio over the weekend. On Friday we rode a VERY crowded bus for 3 hours to get there and then spent the afternoon hanging out at our hotel. Nikki and Giselle (our Belizian friends came along, as well as Rachel's fiance who is in town) have an uncle who lives there so we went to his house and ended up having dinner with him and several other family members.

There was an Easter fair happening, but it was open while we were in town... looked like fun though!

This is Nashlah (Nikki and Giselle's niece). She was super cute and I played ball with her for while after dinner. A picture of dinner was above... my first experience with a whole fish. I'm pretty proud of myself for getting through that!  lol

The pics below are of the annual Easter bicycle race that includes participants from all over the world. We got to see it come through the town.
A couple cows on the side of the road... they were wearing bells!

Our whole purpose for going to San Ignacio was to go on the ATM tour which is a caving tour through a deep cave filled with water, stalagmites, and lots of Mayan artifacts including pots and the remains of human sacrifices. We started with a 2 mile hike through the jungle and across a river until we reached the cave. It was an amazing experience and was pretty challenging at times, because we had to swim, climb, and slide in various parts of the cave. We were worn out after our 5 hour tour in the cave!
The title of this blog comes from our tour guide, Carlos, who told us repeatedly to "take a break" whenever we complained about anything, freaked out because of a tiny squeeze through a narrow passage, or just looked like we were out of breath!

  1. So glad you had a good time doing the caving. Even in one's wild imaginings (is that a word?), one could not even begin to imagine me as a part of such an expedition! ;-) I like expeditions with bright light. ;-)
