1 week down, 15 to go!

I CANNOT believe that we've already been here a week! In some ways I feel like we just stepped off the plane, and in others I feel like I've already been here a month, because we're getting so familiar with the area. It's been a completely amazing week and has made me forget about any second-guessing or reservations I may have had about this trip. I love Belize and the girls I'm here with!

Today I felt like we were on a tropical island since we spent the day by the pool, walking along the sea wall, and chatting with some of the locals.  It seems like I discover something new that I like about Belize everyday and today that was the beautiful flowers and plants. Nearly every yard is filled with greenery and brightly colored flowers, but the flowers beside the pool at The Princess Hotel today were the best! They're huge, colorful, and have that tropical look like I've only seen in pictures. I also love the huge fan trees that are perfectly proportional and look so pretty. It amazes me that these beautiful things can withstand the heat here.

After spending most of the morning and early afternoon by the pool, we walked for a while along the seawall down toward the southern Belize City area where the Radisson Hotel and marina are located. We were on a quest to have lunch at a cute little cafe called Le Petit. They had the best pepperoni/cheese calazone, a jam roll (pretty much like eating a strawberry pop-tart except much better), and iced peach tea. It's the cutest little cafe and will definitely be on our list of good places to eat for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, even though it is a bit of a walk. But hey, that means that we'll work up an appetite before we eat and then work it all off! lol. After a delicious lunch that only cost $4.25 US, we walked out onto the marina to scope out the boats and take pictures. We also came across one of the snorkel/dive instructors who takes groups out to the islands for day trips. We picked up a brochure and he gaves us prices and shedules for the snorkling, so we're thinking that we'll prbably spent a Saturday doing that in a couple weeks. (This upcoming weekend we're planning to make a visit to some of the Maya Ruins, which we're all very excited about!)

This is just around the corner from our apartment... I'm not sure that it has the best advertising slogan...lol

  2. Vanessa, I am envious....not of the flowers and scenery (even though I would love taking photos there--yours are gorgeous!) but of the accupuncture and massage! Wow! That close to you? I've had both for my arthritic problems and they are both fabulous. I will admit the advertising for the ones I had were not quite as....interesting!

Thinking of you this morning as we get ready for church...and wishing you an "unclouded day". :)
