Hot Weather!

We are finally just beginning to experience the heat that Belize has to offer. It started last night when it began to get a little stuffy in our apartment, and I found myself peeling off covers by the morning.  After our short walk to school, I was already working up a sweat from the humidity and bright sunshine. However, I was pretty excited about our first day of beautiful, hot, sunny weather in January! Since it was in the 80's this afternoon, we walked to the Princess Hotel right down from our school and took in some rays as we relaxed by the pool.  (Another thing I should mention is that the parents of one of my students own the hotel... awesome! We're hoping to get some good deals since the hotel also features an indoor gym, bowling alley, and movie theater. We actually ran into Celine (my student) after we ate dinner at the hotel.  She was just playing outside in the yard by the sea wall with some friends... everyday life for her I guess!)

We did have another new expeience today at the pool as we witnessed a race between two very fast and very big iguanas. I'm pretty sure that I've never seen an iguana up close and personal, but 20 feet was closer than I wanted to get. We were just sitting and talking when we heard something and saw the two start racing around the trees and bushes between us and the gate surrounding the pool area. They're tails were probably longer than their actual bodies which made them look kind of frightening. I'm pretty sure that if one popped up be side me I would scream and pass out! Haha. Let's hope that doesn't happen, even though I hear that more of them come out as the weather gets hotter... wonderful! This isn't the best picture, but it's all I could get before he ran away.

After it starting getting cloudy at the pool, we had dinner beside the sea at one of the hotel's restaurants called Calypso. It was decorated with bright colors and  had a very tropical feeling to it. It also had amazing food (which I forgot to take a picture of) and some real freshly-squeezed fruit juice, which I've heard such good things about. I got the fruit punch which was a combination of several juices, and it was delicious!

Let me also mention that I had some local Belizian food for lunch today at school. It's called rice and beans with chicken and it's the comfort food here in Belize. Ms.Morales said some people eat it everyday for lunch. I have to say that it was delicious and so were the fried plantains that came with it! I love the food here so far! While I was taking this picture one of my students asked "Why are taking pictures of your food?"  All I could do was laugh, because it is kind of weird that I'm taking pics of my food. I just want y'all to see that I'm being well fed!

We're hoping for more good weather tomorrow so we can go back to pool and are beginning to start planning some weekend trips so we can explore this beautiful place. I'm really excited about seeing everything that Belize has to offer (as corny as that may sound)! lol

I also got a mailing address, so if you want to send anything my way let me know or ask my mom!

  2. What a lovely place to "work". Remember your sunscreen when you are out and don't worry about coke addiction. Some of your favorite people suffer from that malady. I need at least one a day!!! Enjoy the cuisine.
