Day 2

Day 2 began with lots of barking dogs (wait, who am I kidding? the dogs were barking ALL night long! apparently dogs in Belize are the equivalent of household security systems back in the States.) and the sweet sound of organ music coming from the church across the street. I heard some very familiar songs like "Unclouded Day", "I'll Fly Away", "This is the Day", and "How Great Thou Art"... I also felt like I was back home at Rock Springs! There is also another church right beside our apt that is a Baptist one, so we're hoping to check it out next Sunday! We strolled around the town looking for a breakfast place, but instead visited the Princess Hotel and a park right on the ocean, which is where we ended up not only finding burritos for lunch but a new friend as well. Daniel is a 10 year old boy from El Salvador who we played soccer with while his mom prepared our lunch at her burrito stand in the park. He also served as an interpreter for his mother, car mechanic for a local man, and tour guide to us during the time we spent with him in the park. He's only 10, but already knows so much about life and the place he lives.  We also did a little grocery shopping at the local market located 1 block behind our place. Surprisingly, they had nearly every food item I usually chow down on in Georgia, so I ended up with an assortment of Kellogs cereal, popcorn, Gatorade, and Chef Boyardee Ravioli... YUM! We're going to hit the local fruit market on Tuesday since that's the day new fruits come in each week.

The pics below sum up our second day in Belize and begin with a look at the outside of our apartment which is the left entrance of the white building. Stelle's mother lives in the right entrance and is connected to us. There are also pics of the school I'll start at tomorrow, the ocean,  the park, and the surrounding community.
